Barcode

Samantha, Martha, Sam and Milena

The year is 2012. There are no voices. There are no faces. There are no identities.  All citizens must keep their heads and faces covered with a mask that limits them to two facial expressions—either happy or sad. They must wear barcodes around their necks for identification.  Society is ruled by a single voice, and all other sounds are blocked. People communicate through a set of speaking cards. One day, a girl finds magazines and pictures that are being kept hidden, and she realizes that the government is suppressing them. She tries to run away, and in the process, her earpiece breaks, allowing her to hear sounds for the first time. She realizes that she must go back and defeat her government in order to get total freedom for everyone.
